sylplath's Full Review: Bury the Hatchet (The Complete Sessions 1998-99) [...
Being a big Cranberries fan, I was excited to hear that they were coming out with a new album-- Bury the Hatchet. While the sound is pure Cranberries-- sweet, clean-cut and clear Dolores O'Riordan, the lyrics aren't as profound and bittersweet as on previous albums. Maybe it's unfair to judge this album on previous recordings, but being such a huge fan of the album No Need To Argue (clearly the Cranberries best in my opinion), I just felt disappointed in the most recent edition of the Cranberries musical work.
However, this is not to say that this album isn't worthy of purchase. On the surface this album is beautiful; there are clean harmonies and haunting melodies in songs like "You and Me" and "Shattered," but when I truly listened I found myself desiring more of these songs... I wanted more depth.... more meaning, something to spark within me a feeling of desire, of want.
